Same as it ever was

And you may ask yourself
What is that beautiful house?
And you may ask yourself
Where does that highway go?
And you may ask yourself
Am I right?…Am I wrong?
And you may tell yourself
MY GOD!…WHAT HAVE I DONE?

Same as it ever was…Same as it ever was…Same as it ever was…
Same as it ever was…Same as it ever was…Same as it ever was…
Same as it ever was…Same as it ever was…

I’ve yet to find any online advice that actually helps for anxiety. This video totally ignores any other issues like depression and assumes yet again you are  a bit awkward and its all your own fault for thinking this way and not doing enough to help yourself. Yet again at the end he tries to guilt trip you for staying inside like a coward when you should be running towards life and embracing it. What with positivity you mean? How do I get that? And guess what? Not all people with anxiety are in their twenties or younger so dont call us all kids.

So I am supposed to sing at myself in the bathroom for a while and that will make me feel less anxiety when I go out and eventually cure me? This isn’t a race so it takes time he says. Well actually if you are over 40 your chances of getting a family, career and anything else are much slimmer because life is short and so in fact  we are in a race, a race against time We are expected to have done most of the normal stuff by a certain point in our lives or face even greater ridicule. Men who are still virgins past a certain age for instance are treated like they are a total joke by society at large and worthy of contempt. Likewise if you haven’t got a proper career even worse if you are unemployed.

Of course any of my response will be seen as negative thinking and the reason for my continued failure as if I deserve everything which totally ignores that I dont want to be negative and just telling me to be the opposite doesn’t work just like most of this shit advice.  In fact just like this I saw on youtube today;

“Its very easy to cure anxiety and depression if you have the right tools and you know what the problems is.”

Oh that’s why the medical profession has completely cured most mental illness then. Oh hang on they haven’t and its actually getting worse. It this man’s case he was simply doing too much work and when he slowed down and did less it completely cured his anxiety so he just assumes everyone on the planet has exactly the same problem. No we dont.

In fact so much of this online advice is totally useless and bares no connection with reality that it makes me even more depressed and negative.I think it actually increases suicidal thoughts. Maybe its partly because getting angry with people for not doing enough in this sergeant majorish type manner as if its all their own fault actually increases guilt and guilty people with no way out often kill themselves. Meanwhile on the same planet nasty selfish people can become billionaires and running for the white house.

I agree not a very useful video by someone who has probably not experienced a moment’s social anxiety in his life. The vast majority of people in the world may be indifferent to us, but that doesn’t help us to make friends with a those people we don’t want to be indifferent to us.

You are right to rant! I wish people would stop putting themselves up as experts on the subject of SA & depression. I won’t watch the video because it is obvious that man is ignorant of the condition.

I wish you all the best in your search for a cure or acceptance by people for the way you are.

Thanks Sharon, there is just so much bad advice on the net and much of it is contradictory or assumes you are 16.
