Friendly Friday photo Challenge Leaves.

This is part of the Friendly Friday photo Challenge hosted this week by Something to Ponder About.

This week its Leaves. It will soon be autumn again and the changing colours, my favourite time of the year for walking and photography as long as the sun  comes out, sometimes.

Thanks for inviting me. I had to so I was a bit reluctant in case normal people with no knowledge of anxiety and depression came over and then offered me advice. That’s what I meant about unwanted advice and also some in the past, then some people got aggressive I was not thankful or said it did not work for me.

I can imagine you didn’t want to hear the “just be positive,” diatribe from those with little understanding of brain chemistry and anxiety.

      • klodo August 31, 2019 / 12:23 pm

No, in fact that the reason I did not reply to the blog post you had a link to as it seemed to be saying you just choose to be positive or think a certain type of way. As I am still taking sleeping tablets I feel very lethargic and mixed up in the morning. I usually find it much easier to post later in the evening so my mood changes enormously. Many people with chemical imbalance and clinical depression must feel this way all the time so its certainly not a choice for everyone.

Absolutely, I agree. We CAN chose our attitudes and reactions, but not our chemical mix. Neuroplasticity – one of the latest buzz words – suggests that changing your thinking/reactions changes your brain chemistry. But the more prolonged the activation of a neural pathway, (in an anxious or paranoid response), the more stubborn the behaviour or emotion. Thus it takes a lot of repeated attempts before any real impact is felt on the chemistry. Re the article itself – different people interpret differing things from the same words. I take what has meaning for me and dismiss what doesn’t. Sometimes 2 or 3 words trigger a thought of my own that has relevance to me. That alone makes an article worthwhile reading. I must look back at the article again to see what I gleaned from it.

I am not sure. I was actually saying I cant choose my attitude or reactions just because someone on the internet tells me to be more positive. I understand the neural pathways changing over time which is of course what CBT is supposed to do by challenging our fears and then overcoming them but as said before many CBT exposures would almost certainly go extremely badly without a positive mindset and adequate social skills from the start and then this just reinforces negative beliefs.

      • Forestwood September 1, 2019 / 8:56 pm

Yup. That is where CBT fails. The theory is sound, but the practical application very wanting.

How did you create the 3rd last one with the black background?

    • klodo August 30, 2019 / 9:34 pm

I think it was taken looking into the river as the leaves drifted by.

      • Forestwood August 30, 2019 / 9:38 pm

Wow! The photo is even better, knowing that up had to account for movement blur too! Well done!
